Functional abdominal pain disorders (FAPDs) are a group of disorders of the gut-brain interaction (DGBIs) and affect up to 25% of children worldwide. Children with FAPDs have an impaired quality of life along with significant risk of psychiatric comorbidities. The pathophysiology of FAPDs is complex and involves numerous biopsychosocial factors, and with up to 40% of children having persistent symptoms despite therapeutic interventions, it is important for the clinician to understand and be comfortable with using the most effective, up to date and evidence based therapeutic strategies for their patient with FAPD.
This webinar aims to provide the audience with a detailed overview of the approach to FAPDs including evidence-based treatment approach based on FAPD subtypes as per the Rome IV criteria. Recently, NASPGHAN and ESPGHAN released updated guidelines for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional abdominal pain-not otherwise specified (FAP) in children aged 4-18 years.
